A Study on the Image for Smoking Among the Students

Abstract
In order to promote an anti-smoking education, we must understand how school students imagine about smoking. The authors have studied the image for smoking of 689 school students in Jeju Islands. This survey was conducted from 9th of June to 18th of June in 1986.
The answers have been grouped into 51 response categories; 74.4% of the categories reflect a negative view of smoking. The most common response is that smoking is "Harmful". Of those surveyed, the girls, elementary and middle students, and students who have smoking of parents with same sex tend to reject smoking.
In order to effectively carry out anti-smoking education for students, emotional and ethical aspects, as well as physical aspects, should be considered.
